The inaugural meeting of the Transition Towns group representing our Triangle communities and Narooma, was held on Friday 20th June 2008, at “Love at First Bite” Central Tilba.
Attended by John Carter, Angela Marshall, Carolyn Wells, Peter Essex, Anne Wilson, Peter Doolan, Jo Lewis, Don Dornan, Ann Montague, and Karen and Gary Hooley.
Transition Towns is a concept and a movement to promote changes in local communities to address the challenges posed by Climate Change and Peak Oil. Peak Oil predicts a deminishing oil supply combined with an increasing demand that forces fuel shortages and rising prices as we are currently seeing now.
Our Transition Town group met to share thoughts and discuss ways of making our community more aware of the changes that are necessary to ensure we succesfully engage these challenges. By increasing local food production, reducing our energy use, and improving the efficiency of our transport. All agreed these were three key areas to focus on Food, Energy and Transport.
Thus, three Project Leaders were nominated to co-ordinate and disseminate information relevant to each of these sectors. They are Gary Hooley - Food , Don Dornan – Energy and Jo Lewis – Transport. If you wish to participate in, or provide information to, the Transition Towns Group for our area, please contact Jo Lewis on Phone: (02) 44737927 or email: rainbird(at)skymesh.com.au .

As discussed at last meeting on Wednesday,I have made inquiries about having a table representing TTTplus on 16 May. I think it is a further opportunity of making people aware of TTTplus and what we hope to achieve in our local community. It is also the opportunity of showing people what can be done locally.eg make it,grow it ,sew it,bake it. I believe it would be good if we could have examples of this on the stall to sell..Any ideas. We would also need volunteers to man the stall. At our last meeting we discussed amongst other things 1) the Narooma Oyster Festival 2) Obtaining telephone numbers of Members. You could either email these details to peteranne@bordernet.com.au or ring 44737300. 3) additional means of reminding members of meetings as there were only a few present last Wednesday 4) Further ideas to involve Narooma Primary school.eg Cooking at school and the kitchen garden 5) Activities to involve those interested eg pruning of trees and schrubs. 6) after the pruning demonstration a social event eg bbq 7) Training for presentations of Transition Towns. Jo and Carolyn will be doing this and they will then be able to give us an overview 8) Further activities to promote interest of others in Transition Towns. eg video at primary school showing children involved in the garden and cooking. 9) the TTTplus banner. We still need to obtain quotes for the banner 10) The Tilba Fair.We only have a few volunteers to man the stall and we were unable to finalise this on Wednesday as only a few people attended the meeting. If you can assist simply turn up at the stall in the street between the Tea Pot and the Pub. We would appreciate any ideas about future activities and involvement in Oyster Festival. If you are unable to attend the next meeting at THE PINK HOUSE on WEDNESDAY !3 MAY 2009 at 2.30pm you can email your ideas. Regards Peter Doolan
This meeting discussed and offered full support for the proposed festival of sustainable transport to be held early in 2011 and intended to raise funds to finance the completion of the Dalmeny - Narooma cycleway. Also discussed was the production of brochures for the Cobargo Folk Festival where there will be a transtion towns stall and for the Bermagui Seaside Fair where we have been invited to share the CEFE space. Carolyn offered to design and print a brochure and have it ready in time for the Cobargo Folk Festival on 21st February.
David Oliphant offered to develop a stall concept for the Tilba Easter Festival, initial suggestions included street theatre and/or a space where visitors could sit and enjoy a cool drink or piece of fruit while learning about the movement.
There are three bookings for presentations of TTT+ concepts (Rotary, Lions & CWA)
Discussion on the EDAP was basically exploratory, reveiwing methods used by other groups in order to assess the most suitable approach for our diverse and scattered community.
It was agreed that we should each contribute $2.00 towards the meeting expenses eg. provision of coffee. use of power, use of whiteboard etc.
The first meeting for 2009 covered several issues. First on the agenda was a report on the continuing success of the Central Tilba Growers Market and an increase in the cost of a large table from $10 to $15. SCPA was represented at the meeting and advised that membership of SCPA includes all the necessary insurance to cover the member at markets throughout Australia. TTTPlus will join SCPA so that our table at the Central Tilba market has insurance cover. It was decided to call a meeting of the market traders to make sure they understood the insurance issue and general running procedures. Bermagui CEFE has asked if TTTPlus would be interested in joining and supporting their Stall at the Seaside Fair. Carolyn and Ros advised that the presentation package was almost ready and required only some more visual material for the first presentation. A cycling and festival is proposed for the Narooma Dalmeny area. Peter and Ros to progress this idea.
The December meeting was also a delightful Christmas break-up. It was reported that The Narooma News had given good coverage to the first Growers' Market in the Central Tilba Hall and that the market was successful with several good produce stalls, local ice cream, local baked goods and the TTTPlus stall. All the stall holders advised that they would be attending the next market. The market is expected to improve as it becomes known in the area and it is to be a weekly event.
Decisions made at the meeting as follows:
Carolyn Wells and Ros Barr will create a presentation pack in January for use by the group.
The bio-diesel bus proposal has been temporarily shelved until a clear direction is established but Peter has offered to help with a submission for further funding for the Dalmeny cycle path. It was suggested that we should look at getting the bike path network extended to Akolele, Wallaga Lake and Bermagui.
Ros & TTT are to join with John Champagne and approach Eurobodalla Shire Council about the growing rabbit problem in the area.
When the Tilba Growers' Market is properly established we agreed we should approach them to contribute to the cost of improved signage.
Next meeting to be Wednesday 14th January at 2.30pm
